Perhentian Island, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world

Français English

Perhentian Island, or in Malay, the two islands Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (besar means 'big' and kecil means 'small' in Malay), are two jewels located 45 min away by boat from the Est seaside of North of Malaysia. As a consequence, it is in the China Sea we can swiw there. These two twin islands are a part of Terrenganu State, but we have to cross Kelantan State to reach them, which is located at the extreme North of Malaysia, and has a borderline with Thailand. This State, as his neighbour State, is a rigorist islamic State, where for instance the law forbid alcohols.
Accomodations are available on both islands Besar and Kecil. Pulau Perhentian Kecil is the more crowed of the two islands, particularly Pasir Panjang (Long Beach). This beach offers a marvelous landscape, and also a quite animated place : several restaurents-bars with hype techno-house music.
Malay people who works in contact with travellers are very kind, and don't hesitate to communicate. They mostly live peacefully and often play on the beach together: volley-ball, freesbee, etc...
To reach Perhentian is rather simple: go to Kota Bahru (there is an airport) and take a taxi to Kuala Besut, where is the jetty of all transport by boat companies to Perhentian islands. There, you can buy your two-way ticketsand you will be bring directly to the beach of your resort (you can choose your resort at the jetty with the transport company, they will check the available rooms by phone).

I came back there in August 2006 : I will add several photos in the future.

More information about diving. (I have passed my Open Water diploma in August 2006 at Perhentian)

All photographies of the beach were taken at the beginning of August 2003 and in August 2006.

Lily Restaurant sur Long Beach, aout 2006

Lemongrass Restaurant sur Long Beach, aout 2006
